Dreamer follows Teresa, a 9 year old girl crossing the U.S.–Mexico border with her mother, Maria. After being abandoned in the desert following a failed attempt to surrender to immigration authorities, Teresa witnesses her mother die from dehydration. Traumatized and alone, she is rescued by Officer Malone, whose compassion changes the course of her life. Twenty five years later, Teresa is now a dedicated doctor who unknowingly reunites with Malone, now Grandpa Joe, in a quiet and deeply emotional full circle moment about humanity, loss, and kindness.
